The Harvest
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer director John McNaughton’s The Harvest, which stars Michael Shannon, Samantha Morton, Peter Fonda, Natasha Calis, and Charlie Tahan is set for a mid-April release:
“In his first film in nearly 15 years, the director of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer harks back to the depravity that made his 1986 debut a horror milestone. But less based in reality, The Harvest is closer to a fairy tale from Grimm’s darkest corners. Maryann (an impressive Natasha Calis) moves in with her grandparents after she’s orphaned. Desperately lonely, the preteen sets out to befriend a neighboring deathly ill, bed-ridden boy (Charlie Tahan), despite the outright disapproval of his mother (Samantha Morton). Maryann’s persistence pays off, however, and during a series of secret visits she gradually uncovers some seriously sinister goings-on in the house… Morton as the boy’s overprotective surgeon mom is the stuff of great screen villainy—at once utterly monstrous and tragically desperate—so much so that she makes even frequent heavy Michael Shannon, as the more subdued dad, pale in comparison.”

Young Ones – Futuristic Western
Young Ones is set in a near future when water has become the most precious and dwindling resource on the planet, one that dictates everything from the macro of political policy to the detailed micro of interpersonal family and romantic relationships. The land has withered into something wretched. The dust has settled on a lonely, barren planet. The hardened survivors of the loss of Earth’s precious resources scrape and struggle.
Ernest Holm (Michael Shannon) lives on this harsh frontier with his children, Jerome (Kodi Smit McPhee)and Mary (Elle Fanning). He defends his farm from bandits, works the supply routes, and hopes to rejuvenate the soil. But Mary’s boyfriend, Flem Lever (Nicholas Hoult), has grander designs. He wants Ernest’s land for himself, and will go to any length to get it. From writer/director Jake Paltrow comes a futuristic western, told in three chapters, which inventively layers Greek tragedy over an ethereal narrative that’s steeped deeply in the values of the American West. Rango anyone..?

Herbert White by James Franco
James Franco is everywhere these days. Between acting in just about everything and directing feature after feature, it seems safe to say that he’s in the prime of his creative output. In terms of his directorial efforts, Franco definitely has an affinity for adapting tough pieces of literature, like his upcoming feature Child of God, which is based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy, plus As I Lay Dying and The Sound and the Fury, both of which are based upon William Faulkner novels previously thought to be unadaptable. The adaptations didn’t start with that recent trio of films, however, but in the late 2000′s with several short films based on poems. One of these short film adaptations comes from a Frank Bidart poem called Herbert White, and, as luck would have it, it’s is probably one of the most disturbing films that you will ever see… and it stars Michael Shannon. Click on the link below… WARNING: Some people may find subject matter disturbing.

Man of Steel – Review by my 7 Year Old Son ****
Man of Steel is about superman and general Zod. General Zod wants to destroy earth and make it Into a new Krypton. Before superman came to earth Zod and superman’s father battled each other on Krypton but super man’s father got stabbed & Died.
Superman has to save the world from a giant ship called “The World Engine”. Superman must fight Krypton soldiers with the same powers as superman, and one of them is Zod. Army, air force and police battled the soldiers. The only way to stop them was to fire a big missile From Krypton On to the world Engine.
My favourite part is when superman was arrested and told Louis lane that he can break out. He easily broke out by snapping The Handcuffs. Louis lane Looked like Giselle From “Enchanted”.
SPOILER ALERT!!! Superman kills Zod by braking his neck…
I give it 4 stars. I would have given it 5 if Superman had fought Brainiac. I think the movie is okay for a 7 year old to watch (He adds this as his Mum questions whether he should be able to see these movies).

Man of Steel – Trailer
I wasn’t going to post it… but the second official trailer for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013) looks interesting. An alien infant is raised on Earth, and grows up with superhuman abilities. He sets out to use these abilities to guard his adopted world. Starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Amy Adams and Michael Shannon.
