For No Good Reason

Ralph-Steadman_Johnny-Depp_bannerRalph Steadman is the last of the original Gonzo visionaries. Made over the course of fifteen years, For No Good Reason, explores the connection between life and art through the eyes of seminal British artist, Ralph Steadman.

Director Charlie Paul spent fifteen years meticulously amassing footage and creating the animation for the film to match the same anarchic energy, anger and free spirit of Steadmans pictures. Presented by Johnny Depp, featuring interviews with Terry Gilliam and Richard E. Grant, as well as footage of Hunter S. Thompson and William Burroughs, this promises to be a riot.

Wolfcop

wolfcop_posterIt’s not unusual for alcoholic cop Lou Garou to black out and wake up in unfamiliar surroundings, but lately things have taken a strange turn. Crime scenes seem oddly familiar. Lou’s senses are heightened, and when the full moon is out, he’s a rage-fueled werewolf. Wolfcop is one cop’s quest to become a better man… one transformation at a time.

Super Duper Alice Cooper

Super Duper Alice Cooper is the twisted tale of a teenage Dr Jekyll whose rock n roll Mr Hyde almost kills him. It is the story of Vincent Furnier, preacher’s son, who struck fear into the hearts of parents as Alice Cooper, the ultimate rock star of the bizarre. From the advent of Alice as front man for a group of Phoenix freaks in the 60’s to the hazy decadence of celebrity in the 70’s to his triumphant comeback as 80’s glam metal godfather, we will watch as Alice and Vincent battle for each others’ souls. The film is the first ever ‘doc opera’ – a dizzying blend of documentary archive footage, animation and rock opera that will cement forever the legend of Alice Cooper… my childhood hero.

Friday the 13th the Series… Again

Friday-the-13th_Jason-Voorhees_by_Ytse80Jason Voorhees is ready to slash his way to small-screen stardom. Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment have set a deal to produce a new hour-long dramatic series based upon the characters and settings of Friday the 13th. That’s average news, not sure how this would play out… bad news is that Sean S. Cunningham, who helmed the 1980 original, will be executive producer along with EFO Films principals Randall Emmett & George Furla, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment MM, Steve B. Harris of Diversion3 Entertainment, and Ted Fox of Fox Entertainment. Also producing is Horror Inc. president Robert Barsamian, who produced the features… That’s an awful lot of ‘interference’ from a production standpoint, it looks bad already.

Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) have been set to script a storyline that re-imagines Jason in multiple time periods. Roy Knyrim (Gods And Monsters) of SOTA FX will coordinate the special make-up effects for the series. If you recall, the original was set at a summer camp, closed because of the drowning of an unattended child. Promiscuous counselors tried to re-open the place, but they began dying. Jason actually took root as the indestructible villain in the second film, with his signature hockey goalie mask coming later. The series is contemporary, focusing on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed.

“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide,” explained Cunningham. Said Barsamian: “Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”

Credit where it’s due, Cunningham made the original Friday the 13th, however that movie apart, Cunningham has never understood Jason, he’s never understood why he worked or why he was so popular. Since his return to the franchise he’s done two of the worst series movies in Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X. What he’s always wanted to do and fail at, is make over-sexed-teen comedies. This is a money grabbing exercise… again.

Return of the Living Dead – BTS

Return-of-the-Living-Dead_BTS_1Dan O’Bannon’s directorial debut after years of prolific genre screenwriting, RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD was unlike anything previously released. The film mixed a punk rock attitude and pitch black humor with practical effects-heavy horror. The characters were endearingly surreal, American zombies had never been grosser and Linnea Quigley reinforced her position as one of the sexiest Scream Queens of all time. Fun, frightening and still a blast after all these years, it’s great to see the smiles throughout these rare pictures, knowing that everyone involved had fun making it. Check out these awesome photographs from RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD…

The Extinction Parade

The-Extinction-Parade_Max-Brooks_BannerThe undead just won’t die… yet. Legendary Television and Digital Media (the television arm of Legendary Pictures) has optioned World War Z and Zombie Survival Guide author Max Brook’ horror comic series The Extinction Parade for development as a TV series.

Brookswill assist with development of the project as well as write the pilot episode. The Extinction Parade pits zombies against vampires in a world where a zombie plague has put the human race on the endangered species list… and that’s not good for the vampires as it could be the end of their food supply. Therefore the vastly outnumbered vampires enter into an all-out war with the zombies, with humans caught in the middle.

Brooks said ” I only brought the idea to one company, Legendary, because they do the kind of quality work of which any writer would be proud.” Ok, maybe the HBO offices were closed that day… Looking forward to it.

Cabin Fever – Remake!

cabin_fever_poster_xlgReally, it’s come to this… Cassian Elwes and Evan Astrowsky are producing a remake of Cabin Fever. Whether original creator and director Eli Roth is involved or not, and to what degree the remake/reboot/re-imagining will follow the original is up for debate. It all just seems a bit too soon…

The original film featured a handful of college graduates who vacation at a remote cabin in the woods, where they become infected with a voracious flesh-eating virus… gore aplenty. It was a great horror debut.

This news seems to be tied in with the upcoming relase of Cabin Fever: Patient Zero on June 26th, a prequel to Roth’s original film. The plot for Patient Zero is: A group of friends enjoy a bachelor cruise in the Caribbean and stumble upon a research facility on a remote island where a deadly virus is released.

The remake of Cabin Fever seems to be aimed as a follow up to this prequel…

Eli Roth is in for an incredibly busy year with the long awaited release of The Green Inferno, another horror flick Knock, Knock, about two girls who seduce a married man and make his life hell. He is also developing a sequel to Green Inferno as well as possibly directing the Dracula flick Harker.

On the production side he helped develop a film called Clown directed by Jon Watts who made a fake trailer last year in which he attached Roth’s name. Check out the fake trailer and the genuine one below.

Staircases to Nowhere: Making Stanley Kubrick’s “The

The Elstree Project, an oral history project designed to record, preserve and share the memories of people who have worked at the studios of Elstree and Borehamwood.

A 55-minute documentary with contributions from nine crew members who worked on the film and Stanley Kubrick’s widow, Christiane. This is the most in-depth exploration into the making of “The Shining” on film, from the perspective of those who actually worked on the production. Additional content includes memories of the fire at Elstree, a more in-depth look at the Stages at Elstree and the Steadicam, the work of the Second Unit on the film and what it was like to work with Kubrick.

The interviews in this film were recorded over a period of three years, and with eight students getting the chance to gain live work experience as part of their undergraduate degree course in Film and Television in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Hertfordshire.

The Passion of the Christ

The Passion of the Christ dramatically captures the last 12 hours of Christ’s life on Earth, based on the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Love it or loathe it, believe it or not… the film is an exceptional piece of art and mandatory viewing, especially at this time of year.

The Green Inferno – Trailer

Open Road Films are set to release the long awaited Eli Roth directed cannibal thriller The Green Inferno on September 5th after aquiring it at last years Toronto Film Festival. It’s Roth’s first directing gig since 2007’s disappointing Hostel 2. He co-wrote the film with Guillermo Amoedo as well as producing the film.

The film follows a group of students who travel from New York City to the Amazon to save a tribe from extinction. Unfortunately the tribe has other plans. The film stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy and Daryl Sabra. Here’s the first official trailer, which promises some Cannibal craziness but reveals none of it…

Salem – Trailer

“Precious Salem – caught up in a stinking witch panic.” Here’s the two-minute trailer for WGN America’s first scripted series. The producers have apparently taken some flak over their reinterpretation of the actual events of 1692, but what Salem imagines is: The witches were real. And they were in charge… dumb fun.
